“I can’t wait to see my sandwich!”
The girls love Valentine’s Day. It’s their favorite holiday. Well, besides Christmas. And Halloween. And Easter. I guess they just love all holidays.
One thing they did of course was put a lot of effort into their cards and gifts to all their classmates, teachers, and principal. Another thing is they got matching “Love” shirts at Old Navy. And another thing they did was make each other’s sandwiches extra special this morning for lunch. I’m not really sure how you can make a sandwich “special” for Valentine’s Day. Maybe they cut them into hearts? I don’t know. But it made the whole getting-ready-for-school process much more complicated this morning. The special sandwiches had to be a surprise. So first Madeline made Mariana’s sandwich and put it in her lunch bag while Mariana had to wait in her room. Then Mariana made Madeline’s sandwich and put it in her lunch bag while Madeline waited in her room. The ride to school was extra exciting because Madeline kept saying, “I can’t wait to see my sandwich!”
One other thing Madeline did was get an oversized Valentine’s Day card for her teacher. I guess she saw the card at the store and the first person she thought of giving it to was not anyone in her family, any of her friends, but to her teacher. Yeah, she’s a total teacher’s pet. Anyway, she took the card to school yesterday to get all of her classmates to sign it. But the shocking/funny part was that there were actually two girls who refused to sign the card. The reason they wouldn’t sign it was because they hate the teacher. This was shocking to Madeline. Madeline isn’t capable of hating a teacher any more than she is capable of not eating food.
Of course we all realize it’s perfectly normal to hate teachers, because a lot of them are pompous assholes. But the point is, Madeline couldn’t even fathom hating a teacher. In fact, Madeline has loved every teacher she has ever had. Somehow every teacher she has is the best teacher she’s ever had. In kindergarten she thought Mrs. Nanini and Mrs. Pacheco were the best teachers ever. But then in 1st grade she thought Mrs. Gorvad was the best teacher ever. Then in 2nd grade she thought Mrs. Martinez was the best teacher ever. And so on and so forth. Madeline loves all teachers.
Eventually this pattern will probably end. Probably when she gets into 6th grade PE.
